Tick, tock,
Tick, tock.
Clockwork clocks
And clockwork devices,
Clockwork toys
All different sizes.
Clockwork torches
In the dark to see,
Clockwork radios
To listen to the BBC.
Musical boxes,
With a clockwork tune,
And a clockwork ballerina,
In a pink tutu.
Clockwork children,
In clockwork schools,
Doing clockwork lessons,
To clockwork rules.
Clockwork friends,
Who just walk on past,
With cold metal feelings,
In their clockwork hearts,
Clockwork politicians,
With clockwork minds,
Thinking clockwork thoughts,
All the time.
Clockwork generals,
With their clockwork armies,
Making clockwork war,
All clockwork barmy.
Clockwork people,
Living clockwork lives,
Their springs run down,
And then they die.
Tick, tock,
Tick, tock.
