TURP stands for TransUrethral Resection of the Prostate.
It is a surgical procedure to remove part of the prostate gland, primarily to relive symptoms of poor urinary control. It is a commonly used procedure in benign (noncancerous) prostate (see BPH in glossary) but can sometimes be used to relive symptoms in prostate cancer.
